12. Do diamonds have to be removed from their settings?
No. While mountings may restrict access to some parts of the stone, it is still possible to obtain all of the measurements needed to closely estimate carat weight and complete the appraisal.
Joyce Panitch is a Graduate Gemologist trained at the Gemological Institute of America. She is a member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers, and holds a Registered Master Valuer diploma.
